IN MEMORIAM

MANUEL "COCO" REY

From Vigo, Pontevedra, Spain, Manuel Rey Cordeiro—affectionately known as “Coco”—served as the team’s Lead Solo pilot for more than 15 years.

Coco was one of the most talented and versatile pilots in Spain and Portugal, capable of flying a remarkable range of aircraft—from commercial Airbus jets to high-performance aerobatic machines such as the Sukhoi Su-29M, Extra 300/330, CAP 10, and Yak-52. His passion for aviation extended even further, embracing single- and multi-engine aircraft, microlights, paragliders, hang gliders, and parachuting.

With approximately 18,000 flight hours, Coco dedicated over 25 years to competitive aviation, participating in numerous national and international competitions, including the World Air Games, Microlight World Cups, Yak World Championships, Spanish WSC, Vueltas, CEVA competitions, and the World Aerobatic Championship. Throughout his career, he achieved multiple victories and podium finishes, becoming a champion and runner-up in several categories.

In his professional career, Coco flew the Airbus A319, A320, and A321 as a Captain for Vueling.

Beyond his exceptional skills and achievements, Coco will be remembered for his passion, talent, and the inspiration he brought to everyone who had the privilege to fly alongside him. His legacy remains an integral part of the YAKSTARS spirit and continues to influence the team to this day.
